B9 Michael Jackson Dances

Michael Jackson Our topic for this term was music. We learned lots of new songs like Mamma Mia by ABBA, Jailhouse Rock by Elvis presely and Black or White by the king of pop Michael Jackson. We had to work on a dance project. Our aim was to create a 1 - 2 minute dance to one of the following Michael Jackson songs. Black or White, Thriller and Blame it on the Boogie. We had to include at least 5 different Michael Jackson dance moves and focus on making sure our performance was the best it could be. Click on the links below to watch our group dances. Group 1 - Aljarzeera, Dominic, Hafsa, Soreya, Mustafaa and Riley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsOsVzFIbi8 Group 2 - Jamie, Corinthians, Jel-C, Kobey and Ezekiel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRZa_m_wttA Group 3 - Neriah, Nicholas, Trinity, Jade and Promise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh97AdEQKOE

Ezekiel-Mosaics

B9's Mosaics In this photo our class B9 were making a yin and yang out of tiles. The Topic of this creativity was from our teacher, Whaea Breeze because we had an art week during week 1 of term 3. The person who thought of the Yin and Yang was Dominic. The materials that we used were tiles, liquid nail, a tile cutter, a hammer and a big round  piece of wood. A mosaic is like making a big, huge puzzle, which was exciting. Whaea Breeze then got small groups of students from B9, to work on this amazing piece of art . Here is an example of what it's going to turn into. This is what we have done so far.

Mosaics What did you do? For art this term I am making a mosaic. A mosaic is a big  picture made out of tiles. When you put them together it makes a big image. My jobs were to  put the tiles on the mosaic with the glue, sorting out the colours of the tiles a nd spacing the tiles evenly.  What materials did you use? The materials that we used were tiles, wood, a spacer, liquid nail glue, a big wooden circle and a hammer.  W hat did you enjoy about doing this activity? What I enjoyed most about this art activity were smashing the plates, helping glue the tiles, and doing the sun of the mosaic.

Holidays - Aljarzeera

Birthday Party In the holidays, I went to my cousins birthday party. I went with my mum, dad, brothers and my sister. My sister was dressed up as Cinderella and I was dressed up as Belle from beauty and the beast. M y two brothers were dressed up as the beast. When we got there we played on the bouncing castle. After playing on the bouncing castle, we sang happy birthday to Sophia. Then we had a big feed, I had chop sewy and potatoes. My favourite part of the birthday party was singing happy birthday because Sophia wanted me to cut the cake with her. Her cake was awesome because it looked like her. It was purple and had a picture of her and I on it. That is why she wanted me to cut the cake with her.

Extreme Entertainment Wairau   One fresh, chilly morning, I tried to ignore my loud alarm clock. As I got out of bed I shivered, “Brr...Brr," and then I had a shower to warm up.  Once I had finished getting ready, I got in my granddads massive car. It’s so big I struggled to get in. I was exhausted! It was about a 15-20 minute drive, I saw some beautiful brilliant and bright flowers in the neighbourhood of Mangere. We finally reached our location of Roscommon School. My granddad said, "bye!” I replied, “bye!” Then I sat in the seniors line because all the year 5's and up get to go …. TEN PIN BOWLING! And so time went by and our bus arrived at 8:45 sharp and our bus took 2 whole hours to travel to our destination. When I say whole I mean WHOLE because it is in the North Shore. The seniors went ten pin bowling. While we were playing I got a strike, I came 3rd. I was so happy. After that we went to have some lunch. Then we went to play on this massi...

My Trip to Vietnam My family goes to Vietnam every 7 years. The last time our family went was when I was 2 years old, so I didn't remember anyone. Can you guess how old I am? The flight was 10 hours long, a boy in my class Mustafaa he went to Thailand. His one was 14 hours... I'm lucky. All I did in the plane was watch movies like Diary of the Wimpy  Kid. The thing that I hate most about planes are the landings, its super bumpy. When we landed the first thing people asked me was, "do you remember me?" I just lied, I said, "Yes." I don't know why? I think it is because I felt bad that I forgot them. After arriving we got into a taxi for a ride. It's boiling hot at night time in Vietnam but in the taxi it was freezing because of the air con. The ride was 2 hours. During my trip our family went on this boat on this river called Mekong river. We went under bridges. We went to this place where you can swim and you can ride bikes over the wat...

BALLOON CAR Last week, B9 had to create balloon cars made by cups, straws, bottle caps and rubber bands. We had to make sure that the balloon car could do the following 4 things that are, making the car go more that 5 feet, we had to make sure that the air from the balloon had to push the car forward, the car must travel in a straight line and the car must be sturdy and not fall apart. One problem my group faced was making the wheels move. We solved this problem by cutting the hole a bit bigger. Have you made a balloon car before?

Mosaics - Jel-C

Mosaics On week 2 term 3, team 3 is having an art week. What Whaea Breeze chose to do for our whole class was to do mosaic art. For those of  you who don't no what mosaic art is, mosaic art is an image that is created by putting together small pieces of paper or tiles and instead of using paper  B9  chose to use tiles. Here is what it looks like so far.   As you can see my class and I have chosen to do a yin and yang. For those of you who don't know what a yin and yang is, yin (the moon) means the dark side of things and yang (the sun) means the bright side of things, in better words yin and yang means a balance between good and bad. It had took our whole class a week to crack the tiles into pieces and glue it on our wooden cut out. You must be thinking about how we cracked the tiles, well... we used a tile cutter that looks a little something like this. You slide the tile in, then use the handle to push down and crack the tile. One th...

Kobey- Balloon Car

Balloon car Last week we had to make balloon cars for our STEAM project. The materials that my group used were cardboard cups, straws, balloons and rubber bands.  Our balloon car had to do these 4 things: The car  must be propelled forward by the air escaping the balloon. The car must be sturdy and not fall apart when in use. The car must travel at least 5 feet.  The car must travel in approximately a straight line. Some challenges that my group faced were trying to not pop the balloon,  making holes in the bottle tips,  our car not moving 5 feet and the wheels were not turning. My group didn't complete the challenge because it didn't move 5 feet. We were the only group to have our car move at least half a foot.

Mosaics In B9 we are making mosaics. We learned how to cut tiles and use the glue to stick the tiles onto a big circular thick board. The glue we used is called liquid nail. It was really hard to get off so if you use that glue watch out because it doesn't come off once you stick it on. The picture we are making is a yin and yang. A yin and yang means good and bad. Yin represents all things light such as  heaven, summer, spring, positive charge and many more bright things. Yang represents all things dark such as the moon, autumn, winter, negative charge. In the world it is important to have a balance between both light and dark. Here's our unfinished product. This is what it will look like after.

Neriah- Balloon cars

Balloon cars Whaea Breeze gave B9 and I a challenge. The challenge was to make a stable car that can move by the air in a balloon. But the car had to move five steps forward and also it had to move in a straight line. My team and I started to make a plan. Once we were finished, we created our first balloon car.  My team and I came across some challenges that we had to solve. One of the biggest challenges was making a hole in a bottle tip because we only had scissors to make a hole. The materials that my group used were a straw, a balloon, a cup, tape, scissors, rubber band and bottle tips. Then we finally created our balloon car. Next we tested our creation to find out if it worked. But sadly it only moved half a foot. I felt angry that we wasted 30 minutes but at less it moved. Next time I would make better wheels so that it could move forward.

Holiday Recount One terrific holiday, my cousin downloaded Fortnite and used his credit card to buy season 5 battle pass. Later on, I looked on my Instagram and video chatted my friend Azariah and he said he brought something from the Gucci store. It was a bag that was very expensive. Then we started talking about Fortnite. Later on my Aunty, cousin and I went to Manukau and watched Incredibles 2. I saw my friend Christian I said, “Hi,” he replied, “Sup come to my house after.” I said, “Text  me when you get home.” Later on I meet up with my friend Christian he said,“Come to the park.” We played on everything in the park it was boring. So I went home and logged onto Fortnite and tried to get a victory Royale in solos. I kept on dying and it made me so angry that I felt like smashing my keyboard. After that, I looked how much followers I had on Instagram and I had 140 followers. Later on I had dinner and played on the computer until midnight trying to get drifts his...

Balloon Cars In B9 we have been learning about STEAM. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. In STEAM activities we have to Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create and Improve on our design.  The project that we had to make was a Balloon Car. The materials that my group used were cardboard cups, rubber bands, bottle caps, bottles, scissors, straws and sellotape.  Our balloon car had to do the following 4 things. 1. The Car must be propelled forward by the air escaping the balloon. 2. The Car must be sturdy and not fall apart when in use. 3. The Car must travel at least 5 feet. 4. The Car must travel in approximately a straight line. One challenge that my group faced was that the wheels would not turn. We tried solve this problem by changing the wheels. Unfortunately this did not make the car move. It was the same with the other wheels before. The only things my groups car did was number 1 and 2. Our balloon car was not a success. ...

Science- Group 4

Science Board In B9 we were learning about the 3 states of matter. The 3 states of matter are gas, liquid and a solid. We also learned about properties, these are things that you can measure. The 3 properties we learned about were mass, volume, and shape. A gas has only 1 property, that is mass. A liquid has 2 properties that are mass and volume. A solid has all 3 properties mass, volume and shape. We had to make out science boards  colourful  and full of information we learned about this topic. We also got to do a science experiment making ice cream. We got to see how the ice cream went from a liquid to a solid. Once we had finished making the ice cream we got to taste it! It was delicious.

Science behind skittles Neriah

Image
Skittles Experiment   Hi! This is my team the skittles team. The names of the members of my team are Rangatira, Aljarzeera, and Kobey. We were doing science with skittles and water. We had to follow the science steps and fill out our scientific methods. In our experiment, we put one skittle of each colour on the plate and put water on plate. We had to test to see if our hypothesis were correct or incorrect. I thought that the yellow skittle would dissolve the fastest as it was a lighter colour. I was wrong the purple skittle dissolved the fastest. Therefore my hypothesis was incorrect.

Rugby Training-Soreya

Rugby Clinic   Last week we attended a rugby clinic. Some people from a company came to teach us new skills and drills to do with rugby. During the rugby clinic, we learned 3 new skills. These skills were rugby kicks, rugby passes, and an agility activity. My favourite activity was the rugby kicks because I could kind of kick  straight. It is awesome to learn new tricks and skills.

Ice-Cream Making By:Ezekiel

Image
Ice-Cream Making In B9 we made some Ice-Cream. We made our Ice-Cream in snap lock bags.  The Ingredients that we needed were vanilla essence, ice, white sugar, salt, cream, milk, medium Snap Lock Bags and large Snap Lock Bags.  After we put the ingredients in the right order we start to shake the bags until it turns into Ice-Cream. This is a picture to show what it looked like after we shook the bag. We made ice cream because we were learning about the 3 states of matter. They are gas, liquid and solid. When making ice cream we observed how the ice cream turned from a liquid to a solid. Then we got to eat it which was yummy!

Science Investigation - Kazuya

Image
Predicting and Observing 1. The first thing we did was open the bag of skittles, then we put the skittles around on the sides, so we don't make a mess in class.  2. The second thing we did was we watched/observed, what the Skittles did while we added water to them to see what happen's. 3. I noticed that the skittles started to dissolve in the water and it created a rainbow in the plate. The colours did not mix together at first only when we added more water.  4. I predicted that the skittles would dissolve in water and my hypothesis was correct. Kazuya

How to Ride a Bike - Rangatiratanga

Image
How to Ride a Bike Hello, my name is Rangatira and I am here  to show you how to do tricks on a bike. The materials you will need are a bike, helmet, and pads. The first step is to put on your helmet.  The second step is to put on pads. The last thing you need is a bike to get on the bike. You need to put your hands on the bars and lift your feet over the body of the bike.  Now to ride the bike you need to push the pedals forward with your foot then do it with your other foot. Trick 1: How to do a Wheelie. You need to push the pedals forward and lean back. Keep on pedaling. This will make the front part of your bike lift.  Trick 2 : How to Wheelie with One Hand. First, you need to make sure that your hands on the handlebars are comfortable so when you ride you don't fall off. Do a wheelie and then slowly take one hand off the handlebar. Trick 3: How to Jump. Put your hands on the bars and while riding pull the ...

Science Experiment: Float or Sink? - Rangatira

Image
Science Experiment Whaea Breeze gave us some items to put into a bucket full of water. We had to make a prediction about which objects would float and which would sink. I learned about buoyancy. If an object is buoyant then it can float. Objects that have air pockets and have a hollow inside can float. Objects that are denser, will sink. The items we tested were a tea bag, can of beans, a cube, a stick and a sponge.

Commonwealth Games Day -Jade

Image
What did we do at the NHEW3 commonwealth games day? On commonwealth games day we had to finish making our  bracelets,  headpieces, flag designs and getting our costumes ready to show off at the opening ceremony. The country we were representing was Samoa. We also held an  awesome costume parade where the other classes showed off the costumes that they made for the opening ceremony. The countries that participated were Tonga, Jamaica, Canada, and England. The sports we participated in were weightlifting, hockey, gymnastics, ping pong and other commonwealth sports. It was pretty fun and at the end of the commonwealth games day, B9  had come second for our hard work.

Raft Evaluation- Promise

My Raft Evaluation Group Members: Neriah and Promise. Key Competencies: Thinking and Relating to Others. Attempt 1: What went well? What needs improvement? Next time I need to... (What did you do well?) List at least 3 It could float. It could hold 23 blocks. It was stable when we put it in the water. (What do you need to improve on?) List at least 3 things. Make it even Make it bigger so that it can carry more blocks. To cover all the holes (What steps will you take next time to be more successful?) To focus on the raft and not the decorations. Attempt 2: What went well? What needs improvement? Next time I need to... (What did you do well?) List at least 3 It held 53 blocks while floating on water. It could float. It was bigger and more buoyant than our last raft. (What do you need to improve on?) List at least 3 things. Cover all the holes in our raft so that it is secure...

M&MS Maths- Promise

Image
M&MS In B9 we were learning about statistics. My friends and I had to run our own statistical investigation. We had to find out what the most popular colour was in an M&M packet. The first thing we did was separate the M&Ms into groups according to their colour. Then we had to see which M&M was the most popular and the least popular. In our packet the most popular colour was orange. The other groups had different popular colours like blue or brown. We then had to create a bar graph out of the M&Ms and record it into our maths books. It was fun because we got to eat them at the end.
